ABOUT PROS

How does Made Glow vet beauty professionals?

Every pro goes through a four-stage vetting process: live-selfie ID verification, state-board license verification, a 7-year criminal background check, and a portfolio plus reference review. We approve about 38% of applicants.

Made Glow vets every pro through a four-stage process before they can take their first booking. The full deep-dive is on our background-checks blog post; the summary is here.

Stage 1 — Identity verification

Powered by Checkr. The pro takes a live selfie in the app and submits a government-issued photo ID. The selfie is matched to the ID photo using face-recognition; the ID itself is checked against issuing-authority databases. This catches stolen IDs and impersonation.

Stage 2 — License verification

For every service the pro wants to offer, we cross-check their license number against the issuing state board's database. Cosmetology for hair, nail technician for nails, esthetician or medical aesthetician for skincare, Licensed Massage Therapist for massage. Expired or suspended licenses are flagged immediately. More on licensing.

Stage 3 — Criminal background screen

Seven-year nationwide criminal history (county, state, federal) plus the National Sex Offender Registry. Specific offenses — violent felonies, sexual offenses, financial fraud against vulnerable populations — are automatic disqualifiers. Older or non-relevant offenses are reviewed case-by-case under the EEOC's Fair Chance guidance. Full criteria here.

Stage 4 — Portfolio + references

Each applicant submits 8+ portfolio photos and 3 references (one each from a former client, a colleague, and a salon or studio they've worked at). Our internal review team scores the portfolio for technique, range, and consistency, and calls the references. About 38% of applicants who clear Stages 1–3 also pass Stage 4.

Re-screening

Every pro is re-screened every 12 months — license re-verified, background check re-run, portfolio refreshed. This catches license lapses, new criminal events, and pros who've drifted from their stated specialties.
