ABOUT PROS

How much should I tip my beauty pro?

Tip 18 to 22 percent on most mobile beauty services — slightly higher than salon because mobile pros own their full kit and absorb travel costs. Bridal and editorial bookings often get 22 to 25 percent. 100% of every tip goes to the pro.

Tipping is optional but customary. The short version: 18–22% for most services, 22–25% for bridal or editorial. The long version is in our blog post — tipping etiquette for mobile beauty pros.

The math, by service

  • Hair (cut, color, blowout) — 18 to 22 percent. Bridal: 22–25%.
  • Nails (mani, pedi, gel, art) — 18 to 20 percent. Custom art often gets a few extra dollars.
  • Makeup — 20 to 25 percent. Bridal and editorial often 22–25%.
  • Skincare (facials, peels) — 18 to 22 percent.
  • Lashes & brows — 18 to 22 percent. Lash fills often 22–25% (lower per-hour rate).
  • Massage — 18 to 22 percent. Adjust up for chronic-pain or extended sessions.

Why mobile is higher than salon

Salon employees split commissions with the shop and have tools provided. Mobile pros own their full kit ($1,500 to $6,000 depending on service), absorb travel time and fuel, and pay their own insurance. The marketplace fee on Made Glow is only 8% — much lower than a salon's typical 40–50% commission cut — but the trade-off is the pro covers more of their own overhead. Tips are how the math balances.

How the tip flow works in-app

After your pro marks the appointment complete, you'll get a notification with a tip prompt: 15%, 20%, 25%, custom, or no tip. You can take your time — there's no awkward salon-counter moment. 100% of the tip goes to the pro. Made Glow takes nothing on tips.

When a higher tip is warranted

  • Pro showed up early to handle setup before a tight event window.
  • You added services last-minute and the pro accommodated.
  • Pre-7am or post-9pm booking.
  • The pro fixed a major problem from a previous service elsewhere.
  • Group event where the pro stayed extra to coordinate.

When a lower tip is appropriate

If a service didn't meet a reasonable standard, a low or no tip is fair. That said: talk to the pro first (most will fix it on the spot), and if a quality issue isn't resolved, file a satisfaction claim through support — our quality guarantee is a stronger remedy than a tip change.
