The role
You'll be a senior engineer on a small backend team responsible for the infrastructure behind every booking. The stack is Cloudflare Workers + TypeScript with D1, KV, and Durable Objects underneath, and Stripe Connect for payouts.
- Design and ship marketplace systems: booking lifecycle, payments and payouts, real-time messaging, identity and license verification, matching and search.
- Own end-to-end reliability and observability — from deploy pipelines through structured logging, alerts, and on-call rotations.
- Partner with mobile and AI engineering on tightly scoped feature work, typically shipping in a one- to two-week cadence.
- Make the architectural calls. We're at the size where every backend decision has compounding consequences — you'll be in those rooms.
- Mentor and code-review across the backend codebase, and help raise the bar on testing, deploy hygiene, and security.
About you
- 5+ years building production backend systems for consumer products.
- Deep TypeScript or comfortable migrating to it. You can read and reason about the entirety of a service, not just its endpoints.
- Hands-on with edge / serverless platforms — Cloudflare Workers, Vercel Edge, Lambda, Fly, or comparable. You understand the constraints and you've shipped to them.
- Comfortable owning data: schema design, migrations, query performance. SQL is a working tool for you.
- Have integrated with Stripe (or comparable payments infrastructure) and understand the operational realities — disputes, payouts, identity, webhooks, retries.
- Care about correctness. Marketplace bugs cost money and trust, and you treat them accordingly.
Bonus points
- Worked on Cloudflare D1, Durable Objects, R2, KV, or Hyperdrive at production scale.
- Built marketplace, gig-economy, or two-sided platform systems before.
- Have shipped identity verification flows (Checkr, Persona, Stripe Identity).
- Background in real-time messaging, queues, or event-driven systems.
- Comfortable owning security review on payment and PII surfaces.
